The Road Trip
We stayed the night in Miami after the Marlins game and had a day off to get to Atlanta for the Braves. We had a buddy Nowell from school that was living in Athens, GA with his wife and offered some crash space so that was our destination for the day. Also of significance: today was Lumpy's birthday and were on a quest to score some free swag, landing us at a Chevy's in Gainesville, FL. Thanks to the Birthday Boy we ended up with some sweet lids but had to endure the pain of watching Lumpy do the hat dancewith the waitress. We made it to Athens around 9PM and Nowell and his wife Denise met us downtown for tapas and some bar hopping. The bar scene in Athens is great. They remove the front windows from most of the restaurants in summer and the streets are packed. Being a college town (University of Georgia) means cheap drinkin' and we were all over that.
Crashing with Nowell rated a close second to Chuck's farm. If Nowell had a goat that could pee on a go-kart it would have been the ultimate crash pad. Nowell had some sort of veture gone awry whereby he build some arcade style X-box 360s to go into an internet cafe. Long story short, Nowell has a finished basement with 5 X-boxes networked for multiplayer FPS action. I'm sure at some point, we all thought about just skipping the Braves game and playing X-box for 48 hours straight... Reason prevailed and the next morning we made the trip from Athens to Atlanta to meet up with our buddy Kyle for the Braves game.
